We were supposed to spend the day at Great Basin (we actually had reservations for the tour of Lehman's Cave), but Susie had developed a rash over much of her body and it was driving her nuts. so, we decided to leave early and drive to find a walk-in clinic or an emergency room to have it checked out.
We ended up leaving (after breakfast) about 9:30 and drive for about 3 hours to Delta, Utah. We actually got to drive on US 50 - the loneliest highway (at least in Nevada). But there certainly was not much in Utah either. We did not pass a gas station or even a house for the first 70 miles or so.
And the weather was pretty unusual (it was raining on and off), but everyone had commented on how wet it has been all year out there. We found the clinic and they diagnosed Susie with hives. (We're still trying to figure out what caused them)... They gave her some steroids and antihistamines and waited to see if that worked, and then gave her some prescriptions for more of the same and we took off.
We had about a 5 hour drive to Glenwood Springs. Most of it was along interstate 70. I have to admit I was totally amazed at how spectacular the scenery was all the way to Glenwood Springs. The part through Utah passed by the same types of rock formations we'd seen in the National Parks, and the section through Colorado followed the Colorado River all the way from Grand Junction (where the Colorado and Gunnison join up) to Glenwood Springs.
We didn't do much more than look for someplace to eat in town. It was nice enough to sit outside and we ended up at this beer garden...
